Michael
A review of the biopic film made to honour the King of Pop!
Good morning, afternoon and evening to you all. This was meant to be last week’s post, but life got in the way. I apologise, and it’s even on the shorter side, but I think the internet has done diligence with what I’m talking about today.
I had the privilege of watching Michael Jackson’s biopic with the boys this past week, and I just wanted to share my thoughts about the film.
I think it’s a good film, a solid 7-8/10. Really enjoyed the way we see him grow from Jackson 5 to being the superstar in the 80s/90s. I mean, for a 2hr film, it covers quite a lot of the first half of his life. From Gary, Indiana, to the heights of Hollywood, it covers a range of Michael’s early stages, which I think kinda gives a good sense of his upbringing and how he grew into the Michael people know and love.
I also really enjoyed the acting of his nephew. For me, this was the big thing about the biopic I enjoyed. Imitating Michael Jackson is difficult, like difficult, and what Jaafar did, I have to give him credit. From the soft spoken voice we all know to have seen Michael Jackson with to the way he danced and performed, it is really not easy to do so, for that alone, I was really impressed.
I was also impressed with the studio scenes of him when he was trying to make his 2 solo albums. As someone who really enjoys music and the way legendary music is made behind the scenes, I found it incredible that they showed this.
Another part of the film that I feel like was vital was the portrayal of abuse and how it affected Michael and his family. The movie couldn’t even fully go in-depth and show what really went on, yet they still managed to make a good enough impression of what happened. Joe Jackson was a strict man to the point that they didn’t even call him dad; they called him Joseph.
We can see vividly how the abuse Michael suffered affected his ability to be outgoing and free. It also reflects how demanding and how he wanted certain things to be done in terms of his music production. So we can clearly see how this abuse had a lasting effect on his career.
If you have had the chance to watch Michael, let me know what you think in the comments and what you enjoyed. If you haven’t yet, I believe you’re missing out. Reports are saying a part 2 is on the way that will delve deeper into his career, especially during his battles with vitiligo and the various surgeries he was having.
Once again, I thank you for reading and have a blessed week!
